A truly consistent cushion track horse (8 Cush Starts, 3 wins, 1 2nd & 1 3rd) NOISY SCOOTER won the main race on the last night of the Sunshine Coast summer season night racing (it should still be going!) - the Nambour Relay for Life 1600m in Class Record time. His stable name is LUKE as when he was younger he was very hairy & awkward & moved like an Ewok out of the Star Wars series so we aptly nickamed him LUKE SKYWALKER....However our Luke has matured into a consistent runner on the "Cush" & matured with age as many of the Clangs do. Thanks to Dan & Linda Driscoll of Gladstone for their continued support.

Finch Farm Bono has resumed light work and seems to have responded to the treatment given for his navicular cyst. Time will be his biggest test however we remain hopeful that he can return to jumping competitively. I would like to thank Ron Major from Prydes Feeds http://www.prydes.com.au/
for recommending a "Rehab" diet that maintained his weight but had a "Coolness" effect due to the 2month stint he had to have enclosed in a stable. Prydes feeds are available from Jamie & Shannon at AUSTACK, Sunshine Coast on 53418094.

Congrats to the connections of PLAYACTION winning the Class 1, 2000m at the Sunshine Coast (Cushion Track) meeting. Ridden to perfection by Wanderson D'Avila, "Brookie" is now heading for a spell & a geld! (poor Brookstar). The winter carnival looks a likely target with his good form this preparation.

Congratulations to the new owners of NAVILLUS PICALL (K.Clark-Peoples, K.Kildey, G Sutton, I Harrison, P Perren) on winning 2nd up at the Sunshine Coast Night Meeting. This filly is truly honest and a pleasure to train and hopefully she can repeat her performance this Sunday when Wanderson D'Avila takes his first ride on the Sunshine Coast.

12 November 2010

Congrats to the connections of PLAY ACTION winner of the SENIOR RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB MDN 1300m at the Sunshine Coast. A good start to the beginning of the night racing meetings at Caloundra!

November 2010

Where has the year gone? Soon we will be in Santa suits & doing the dreaded Xmas Shopping! The past 3 months have been busy with the babies being educated, trialling and then finally going out for a well earned break. Due to the success of Gingerbread Man in Singapore we have had many enquires for our 2yo's and have had some successful sales and some syndicated to retain to race. Our starters have been consistent over the past month and I have highlighted some of our runners:

Prosper - ran 2nd over 1400m on the Cushion Track which was a big improvement on his previous start (ran 14th out of 15 beaten 9.5l); Maybe the Cushion is his preferred surface!

Macsquire - continues to run well and always puts in a good performance in good company. Out of his last 6 starts he has won & placed in Provincial & Metropolitan company:

Playaction - has resumed this month after debuting over the winter and running some good races in Group Company. He ran a good 4th first up in town in after "frequenting" the Stewards Report...let's hope he gets more luck next time!

With Friends - Ran 5th of 12 over 1200m in *Class Record Time*. This is a horse with ability who also has the ability to do little things wrong that has cost him a spot in the winners stall. However he is a work in progress and we are getting there and appreciate the support of his loyal group of owners:)

Navillus Picall - David and I have leased this filly as we have a high opinion of her. She debuted today after a 212 day spell and ran a pleasing 4th over 1200m. Our aim is to set her for a Mares/Fillies race in town over a mile as she is definitely looking for the journey and has a perfect stayers temperament:

The babies have now returned to the barn to begin their second prep so we are in full swing again. We also have some of our other runners ready to start trialling, Noisy Scooter and Dragon Rocker to name a few. Both horses were winners & placegetters stalls last prep & we hope they are there again this time!

Please follow our Facebook Page by clicking on the link above as it is easy to update & is becoming a great marketing tool for us. Feedback is welcomed on the different ways we update our news etc.

There are some existing staff members who need to be added to our Staff Profile Page, two which come to mind are Sarah Wessling and Sarah Tonisso. Sarah Wessling has to be commended for "sticking it out" as she came to the job with no prior horse experience and no "early start" experience. She has become a senior and valued person to our Team. Sarah Tonisso has to be commended for her work and study ethic as she is currently finishing Year 12 and I hear is expected to do very well - we also wish her a Happy 18th Birthday for this month & many happy returns. Next month I will be profiling each of the Team for Xmas, it is nice to have the ratio of 6 girls to 3 men at SCRL:)

Happy racing and hope you backed a winner over the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Winner today for David Peoples & the Team - MACSQUIRE over 2200m Class 3, paid $9 with Renee Hinricks aboard.  David has had faith in his staying ability & Dessie (the Turf Club's Clerk of the Course) rides him work & declared him during the week....good jobs guys (+ most importantly the girls at SCRL:)

28 August 2010

We trialled 3 babies on Tuesday, the Ferocity - Fashion Setter Colt, Sequalo - Bollinda Tellinda Colt and the Shovog - Billboard Filly they all went super for their first jump outs and the two colts have sold themselves - 50% in each gone as they were very impressive. The filly who has been a handful has finally come to the party and also trialled good but wasn't quite as forward as the boys. The two colts are now headed for the Fitton 2YO race all going well so contact us for the remaining shares available.  The draft we have this year are possibly the most forward babies we have had to date.  The All Bar One - Dainty Habit & the Outback Prince - Triple Trio colts & Markane Malibu Heights Filly will all be ready to trial in a couple of weeks time.  We also have 3 x 3yo's in this time that are well grown, fully educated & ready to go, a gelding by Sequalo, a filly by Canadian Silver & a filly by Nothin Leica Dane.  We will be updating our FOR SALE page soon with more details & photos.

I must also mention a Broodmare for Sale that is worthwhile looking at if you are a breeder: (also listed on FOR SALE page)
Broodmare 9yo, MICHIGAN AVENUE - LION HUNTER out of ACQUISITIVE (Covetus), won $36,550. Ran 2nd in town over 1030, 2 x 1sts at Ipswich over 1200 & 1330m then went north to race & won & placed in Townsville & Rockhampton. 1st first foal going through the Ready to Run sale, he is a big strong chestnut gelding by BAGGER VANCE. Owners don't want to breed anymore - good price at $ 2,000 (empty).

Update 10 August 2010:

NAVILLUS SUPERMAN

More excitment for the team when NAVILLUS PICALL won the Seapointe Homes Mdn Plate over 1400m on the Sunshine Coast Cushion Track.  It was an exciting finish with the margin a nose!  Congrats to our supportful owners Denise Scriven and Dexter Sullivan and  a special mention must go to Trainer Andrew Donnelly who broke the filly in and educated her before being badly hurt in a track work accident, we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

February 8 2010

The team had a great day yesterday with 2 wins from 3 starters.  Cushion Track specialists CHEAPSKATERUBI and VISION OF FALVELON romped home at long odds to win.  It's great to see the Cushion Track in cool conditions instead of the hot conditions that favours front runners.  Both horses were last turning for home and took advantage of outside runs.  Apprentice Shaun Guymer steered both horses to victory and was rewarded with a write up in the local paper, well done Shaun!  It was extra special for part owners Bruce and Heather Deegan from Caloundra City Realty as they sponsored the race.  We also have to thank Danny & Kelli Williams for allowing Shaun to stay on loan in Queensland with the stable as we know he is in demand at home!

SHOGOLD ridden by JASON HOLDER

SHOGOLD was impressive winning on boxing day at the Sunshine Coast.  Ridden by Jason Holder, Shogold always looked the winner at the top of the straight and romped home on a slow track.  We are very impressed with this horse's progress and his run at the Magic Millions yesterday was a corker apart from his unlucky run in the straight.  Congratulations to Denise Scriven and Dexter Sullivan they are supportive owners to us and our team here at SCRL.

CITY LIMITS impeccable breeding stood up on Sunday winning the HOT 91 Maiden Handicap over 1400m.  "Darby" is by the great sire "Encosta De Lago" out of "City Ex" and was sourced by Cameron Barnes Bloodstock in partnership with Kristie Clark-Peoples, Denise Scriven and Dexter Sullivan.  Cameron Barnes has sourced 15 winners at Caloundra, the best to date being Jason Mclachlan's In Rehearsal.  Cameron can be contacted on 0402717849.

Breeze Up preparation has begun and we have bought the first draft into the stables.  This year will be our best catalogue to date and there are some nice horses on offer.  Updates will be provided and listed on the "For Sale" page.

SHAKARA (ridden by Damien Browne) broke through and won the Blacklaw Civil Contractor (C6) 1200m at the Toowoomba Cushion Track opening meeting (11.07.09).  We were quietly confident as he gallops on the cushion track at Caloundra and went into the race with good form.

SCONANDTINK  was unlucky coming up 3rd in a 3 way photo the next day at the Sunshine Coast (12.07.09) After going down by a nose x nose he is taking a well earned break after a good campaign

SCONANDTINK - Ridden by Jana Piper

VISION OF FALVELON proved she has been worth the wait when she won the 1600m Maiden on the Cushion Track last Saturday.  She has been a problem child with her barrier manners however the penny has dropped and we hope she is on track for bigger things this winter.  Congrats to Mick & Sandy Patteson of Mackay for being patient with her

Farewell to "JOEY" (Registered name COVER YOUR EARS) who is Singapore bound.  We secured Joey at the Breeze Up sales after Joe Singh purchased him and decided to leave him in Australia to be educated.  He did well before going shin sore and we hope he will be competitive on the Singapore 2YO scene.

CHEAPSKATERUBI broke through with an overdue win in the xxxx Maiden Plate 1100m at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday (22nd Feb).  Congrats to the owners Daryl & Fiona Cook, Bruce Deegan and John Longhurst as RUBY has had a lot of feet problems since he was a 2YO which has restricted his true potential.  RUBY has appreciated racing on the cushion track combined with regular treatments.

Winning Connections (L-R) John Longhurst, Bruce Deegan, Gino Teserio, Owen Turpin, Heather Deegan, David Peoples.

What a great win for DOUBLE ISLAND's connections yesterday at the Sunshine Coast.  Owned by Georgie Sidebottom, Bruce Deegan and Paul Handby big "KEL" was having his first ever race start as a 4YO and won impressively over the 1000m journey.  We were quietly confident until the horror barrier draw on Thursday so it was an even better effort coming out of 15 with the rail out 8m.  A superb ride by Jason Holder and rewarding win for the owners who have been patient with this 17 hand son of Clang.

Winners are grinners (L-R) Georgie & Kel Sidebottom, Kristie Clark-Peoples, Paul & Patricia Handby, (Back) Gino Teserio, Jason Holder, David Peoples (Trainer)

SHAKARA has "broke the drought" for the stable in town and won in style over 1000m at Eagle Farm last Saturday.  It was pleasing to see "one of the babies" make it from the sale ring to the winning stall in a metropolitan race.

We are still using Equissage.  Kerrin and Kristie are doing and Equus Muscle Management course this month to compliment the Equissage Machine Therapy.  Details of this technique can be found athttp://www.equusmusclemanagement.com.au/

We have purchased two EQUISSAGE MACHINES http://www.equissage.com.au/ and this will enable us to treat the horses on a more regular basis.  In summary, Equissage horse physiotherapy incorporates a unique three way cycloidal action which stimulates circulation, lymphatic drainage, relaxation of muscle, and increased joint mobility.  We have purchased 2 additional tendon boots to work on the horses that have sustained injury in the past and also to prevent injury in the future.  The tendon boots are also ideal for treating shin shoreness and a range of other problems.  We intend to use the machine on certain horses before work and on all horses in the afternoons after workouts.

The CUSHION TRACK is still living up to expectations and we feel very safe fast working our horses on such an even cushioned surface, especially the babies and horses with leg problems.  SUNSHINE COAST CUSHION TRACK

UPDATE: NOISY SCOOTER was successful again at Towoomba in a 3YO QTIS Race.  He has had a great start with 2 wins from 5 starts in his first racing prep.  Congrats to Danny and Linda Driscoll.

The week continued in good fashion for the team and David Peoples trained another 2 winners on Friday at the Sunshine Coast Turf club Cushion Track meeting.  These were NOISY SCOOTER (owned by Dan Driscoll) and MY TINKERBELL (owned by Rob and Renae Karam).

Congratulations to SHAUN GUYMER riding his first Queensland winner at Toowoomba on the 14th of November.  CHEAPSKATERUBI won the 2nd time on the Cushion Track for connections and this is his favoured surface due to his history of feet problems.  We have done a swap with our Apprentices for a month so they can gain experience in a different environment, Nicole is on loan to Danny Williams in Goulbourn.

Ollie and I visited FINCH FARM this weekend and decided to give David Finch and wanted to congratulate David Finch, Robert Moffat and team on their new foals and amazing stallions!  For a preview on these amazing horses follow the link:

SCRL's consistent run of placings has continued and some of our babies have stepped out for the first time which we have been happy with as it's always a hard task getting them to the track as 2YO's.  We were particulary happy with our NZ bred 3YO filly LA PINOT's run last start over 2240m at Doomben, only beaten 4l she is a true stayer in the making and we are looking forward to some longer distance races over the winter for her.
